bored so posting some movie reviews

International and Watchmen, the two movies I saw recently. I don't know I'm really bored right now.

International:

First off, I went to this movie only because a friend asked me to so I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought it was going to be like Bourne, which are some of my favorite movies. Too sum this movie in one sentence I would have to say boring. I watched the movie yesterday and have already forgotten half the movie. In fact when I left the movie theater the only name I could remember was the main characters. I’ll admit that I started zoning in the movie, and debated whether or not to leave while watching this movie.

The Plot: An “evil” bank is trying to make a bunch of third world countries indebted to them. The main character and his partner are investigating the bank; after meeting an informant the partner is killed. The main character is now even more determined to figure out what is going on and with the help of his female “blonde” friend and various unimportant characters he tries to provide evidence that the bank is doing illegal things. They find out that the killer, who kills everyone that could provide the main character information conveniently right before that person tells them “crucial information”, has a prosthetic leg. They go to America, hell they go all over the world, and corner him at a museum. Conveniently for the bank they assassinate the main characters link to the bank. However, conveniently before the prosthetic leg man dies the main character saw him with another man who runs the bank. Main character and bank man talk; main character becomes a criminal; main character kills bad guys; main character attempts to kill main bad guy by chasing him on a roof top forever even though he could just shoot him at like point blank range; main character confronts bad guy; main character gets ready to fire gun finally; random guy kills bad guy. The End. 2/5

Characters: Nothing. The characters are bland, card board boxes of detectives. The blonde female while smart is obviously just candy and disappears once she’s not needed anymore. The bad guys are all the same, greedy little bastards that like to kill people and start wars, and you know become rich in the process. The old man, or bank man as I refer to him in the plot, could have been interesting. There is reference to him a good guy, but just in the wrong place or something (don’t really remember conversation), not like it matters because he dies and is promptly forgotten. Random police officers that could have been cool, but end up just being there to be killed. Main character, has a little characterization, but ends up not developing but un-developing. There are all these implications about his past that are mentioned once or only hinted at that should be important to the plot. .5/5

Visuals/Music: I don’t remember the music much, but I think it added to the scenes that were there. It could be intense, but after awhile the music turned all the same. The visuals were nice. I think the action scenes were pretty cool and well choreographed. They certainly seemed real. They shot in some amazing places. The camera shot at good angles and showed us the most important parts of each scene. Music: 3/5 Visuals: 5/5

Acting: Mediocre, but mostly because they didn’t have much to work with. Not much more I can say because all the character meshed in together. 3/5

Overall: 5/10

Watchmen

I wasn’t so sure about this movie coming in. The reviews were mixed and I kept hearing that it wouldn’t make a good movie. I have never read the comics, but plan to do so, and yes I know that the comics will be better then them movie, and no I don’t believe that because I watched the movie first that makes me less of a fan then those who read the comics first. In fact, I have always wanted to read the comics I just never got around to it. Anyway, I went and saw it, with the same friend mind you. Of course I had the benefit of knowing that it wasn’t a typical superhero movie so that helped.

Plot: Umm, it’s based off a comic, and is fairly complicated so I don’t feel like going into it. Basically its 1985 and the Cold War is still going on, one of the superheroes, the Comedian, turns up dead. Rorschach, another superhero, investigates his death believing a mass murder is out killing superheroes. The movie goes into each character and their past and how they dealt with the Comedian and the events surrounding their lives. It would take too long to go into each character. It’s found out that one of their own killed the Comedian, and that he plans to kill millions of people to save the world from going into World War III, it works. Umm, I don’t really want to give away the plot even for those who don’t want to watch the movie. 5/5

Characters: The characters are fleshed out pretty well in the movie. For only being three hours I was surprised at how well they were able to explore each character. Silk Spectra II and Nite Owl II were the least developed and probably the least interesting, with a horrible sex scene to boot. Dr. Manhattan was developed pretty well, but I didn’t feel connected to him, but I think it would be pretty impossible to feel connected to him anyway. Rorschach was done well and was the most developed of them all. Adrian was a well thought out villain, and while I figured out that he was the villain I really liked his character in general. Oh fine I squeed every time I saw Adrian. 5/5

Music: A mixed bag of OMG amazing and dear god what were they thinking. The instrumentals were good; there were some good time period music. I have to mention the sex scene, it was bad, and whoever thought of that was like drugged or something. I have no words for how awful that was. There was just a lot of misplaced music within the movie, and I don’t know why. 3/5 (because the instrumentals made up for the horrible song selections)

Visuals: Well this is probably something that no one will disagree on. FUCKING AMAZING. Yeah, if there is one thing everyone will remember from this movie is that the visuals and the scenes were excellently choreographed and the special effects were beautifully and artistically done. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if people thought that that was the only good thing from the movie. So I have nothing really to add. 5/5

Acting: A mixed bag I think. Rorschach and Adrian were amazing. Yes I will admit bias towards Adrian’s good’s looks. Nite Owl II and Silk Spectra II were okay; I had iffy moments with both of them. Silk Spectra II especially, there was some I can’t believe how bad you were moments. Dr. Manhattan was pretty good I think. The rest were decent so I have nothing to add. 3.5/5

Overall: 8/10

About the ending: Since I’ve never read the comics I don’t know the real ending of Watchmen. I keep hearing that the movie version sucks, but I thought it was done well, but that maybe because I haven’t read the comics yet.

I forgot to mention, I have some story stuff I may upload soon. Since I haven't been here in awhile.
