This is a long running shoujo manga that is a historical romance. From what I can tell it's still ongoing, but it's difficult to say. Since the translators are slow on this one it will take time for me to actually get through this one. That's why I"m doing it in sections. Also I always ramble on and on when I discuss manga/anime so it's easier for me to split it up. Currently, I believe there are 98 chapters and only 64 chapters last I checked were translated. The rest I can find summaries on, but I'm not going to do that because it will kill any enjoyment of the series for me.

So what are my thoughts so far on this manga. Well it's okay. It's full of cliches which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I think can possibly hinder enjoyment of the series. I love historical romance manga and this basically follows the check list of historical romance manga haha. I don't mind because it's fun when it's done well.

Here is the thing though. It's not done well until chapter 12. The only reason I kept with it is because it was recommended to me by a friend who said that it takes a long time to get moving. I wouldn't even say it really gets going until chapter 21 or so. The thing is I can't tell if this is the mangaka's fault or if it's the magazine. The reason the first 12 chapters don't do much for me is because every single chapter gives a summary of the situation (Yuurin is pretending to be the consort to the king) at the beginning of each chapter. It can take up to three pages since the mangaka is often telling us this in the midst of a scene. After chapter 12 this eases up a lot. But I will say that because of that I really notice every time the characters mention the fact that Yuurin is a hired consort. It is a lot. Don't play a drinking game with it you will die. The reason I think it might be the mangaka though is because she has a habit throughout the story of hammering you in the head with certain details.

That being said the characters are lovable enough if a little bland, but there are a lot of chapters to come so I think it's quite possible that the characters will grow. They kinda all feel like caricatures to me so far. However, in the last couple of chapters they have started to slowly step out of their boundaries. I'm hoping this continues.

The plot is just there, but there are hints at a larger plot taking place. The humor is decent. It gets better as it goes along. So far we are still in the introductory stage which basically means that there hasn't been a story arc that's lasted more than three chapters. This last one was better than all the rest. I'd say starting after we get introduced to Yuurin (the main character) male best friend the plots improve a lot.

I should note that the first 15 chapters may feel off to me because the translation isn't good. It gets a lot better. I think in the last couple chapters I haven't noticed any glaring issues. This isn't the fault of the manga of course. Just something to keep in mind.

The art is okay, but it improves steadily as it goes. I don't have much to say on this because unless the art is glaringly bad I won't really notice it if the story is good. I'd say there were some off model parts, but it's consistent and is consistently getting better.

At this point I'm cautiously optimistic about the story since it's been improving dramatically. Although it's still a possible drop for me down the line.

Note: no images because all my images were broken and I don't know why and I don't feel like trying to fix it.
